CAMP STOMPING GROUND

In July of 2023, I spent two weeks as an artist in residence at Camp Stomping Ground in Middle Grove, New York. I led a week-long session of Nature Printmaking, where I taught kids different artistic techniques to capture nature.

We tried screen printing, cyanotype exposures, leaf rubbings and monoprinting, and had fun playing with a myriad of materials.

One of the kids' favorite techniques was a version of linocut stamp-making. We started by carving designs into potatoes, then moved onto erasers—a less messy alternative.

I went into this experience with an open mind, unsure of which techniques or practices might spark inspiration. I was quickly impressed with the kids' creativity and endless curiosity.

Our final product was a zine that highlighted each of our young artists' work. We cut, folded, and distributed the zines at the camp's end-of-week showcase. You can download the zine below to print at home.
